why can pet shops overstock their tanks?
when you go into a pet shop you see loads of tanks normally quite small with loads of fish in them. but the fish are healthy. how does that work out?

- The fish are there short term, and Most stores use central filtration systems, what you see in the display tanks is only a fraction of the total water in the system.
- pet shops dont stock the tanks with the happiness of the fish in mind.. they stock them with PROFIT in mind.. the tanks are usually boring - no plants.. and over crowded.. what you dont see is all the dead or injured ones scooped out every morning before you get there....
- They are not meant to be in there for a long time, only temporarely. The pet store also has a Central Filteration System.
- Pet stores have huge filtration systems running behind the wall behind the tanks. They also don't seem to mind how many fish the lose. It's rare to go into a larger fish store and not see dead fish in the tanks. **
- the fish wont stay there forever, someone will have to buy them thats what petshops are for.
